In the third week of August 1971, a team was formed to destroy the Daragaon railway bridge over the Kerangi river on the east side of Shayestaganj. A group of freedom fighters including Mohammad Abdus Salam, an ally of Pakistan Army and militia and razakars captured the group and blew up the bridge with explosives. Breaking the bridge required 400 pounds of high explosives and a total of 40 freedom fighters in the group carried 10 pounds each. The operation site was about 25 miles from the camp. After calculating the time, the freedom fighters left the Ashrambari camp at around 12 noon in an ambulance and a tractor at the Sindurkhan border. We reached the target by walking from three in the afternoon till midnight. There were guards on both sides of the bridge. The bridge was 60-70 yards long. Turn on the rotating searchlight there. Divided into several groups, one went to the west and the other to the east. There was a team to plant explosives. After approaching the bridge and apprehending the two militiamen guarding the bridge, the explosive team started planting explosives on the bridge. Explosives are finished. Shortly after the safety cord was set on fire, a loud explosion occurred. The iron girder began to break. The bridge was completely destroyed.
